DIMENSIONAL ANALYSIS

The principle of homogeneity of dimensions

Read the paragraph below and fill in the missing words.

The dimensions of the each term of am equation must be .

If the dimensions of all the terms are not same, the equation is .

If an equation fails this consistency test, it is proved wrong, but if it passes, it is not proved .

Limitations of Dimensional Analysis

Question 1

This method does not tell anything about dimensional quantities such as number, angle, trigonometric ratio etc.

Question 2

This method can't be employed if the right hand side of the equation contains more than one terms

Question 3

It does not distinguish between the physical quantities having same dimensions

Question 4

The method of dimensions can only test the dimensional validity, but not the exact relationship between physical quantities in any equation
